            A short, scenic drive to the East from Dogwood Mountain Estates is downtown Hendersonville , which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  There are specialty shops, restaurants, antique shops, and fun for all ages.  Enjoy “Music on Main Street ” every Friday night from June through August and street dancing on Monday nights in July and August.  Hendersonville is the home of the famous North Carolina Apple Festival each Labor Day weekend.  It features a street fair on Historic Main Street , which includes live entertainment, arts and crafts, apple products of every variety, and activities for children as well as special exhibits.             Also in the Hendersonville area, don’t miss the Village of Flat Rock .  The famous Flat Rock Play House, is open eight months of the year and offers a variety of exciting productions including Broadway musicals, comedy, drama, and youth theatre. While in Flat Rock, be sure to visit Connemara , the home of Carl Sandburg, famous American poet, historian and author.  Take a tour of his home as well as Mrs. Sandburg’s prize winning goat farm.
